It has been a while

Somehow it’s been a decade with very limited blogging. It happens. Decided new startup is going to be stealthy (dumb), didn’t have the tools to be public about divorce or said startup failing (ongoing work there still), and a long journey back to happiness and health all combined to make me a lot quieter.

That journey is nowhere near finished, but it’s time to be back out here.

So many stories from the last decade. Just the five years at Google (thank you, Sundar, for the role I couldn’t turn down) covered an unbelievable period — covid, the emergence of LLMs, the wild complexity of adapting to Apple’s ATT changes, Material You, helping to write I/O every year, being a bird on a wire, etc etc.

The last two years have been SmartNews. Based mostly on a handshake with Ken and Kaisei, I’ve had the chance to split time in Tokyo (omg, the food) and pull in remarkable people from past lives (hi, Jason) to look at what a rethinking and reinvention of news would look like.

I’m thinking I’m back

Since my prior writing was scattered to hell and back again across GitHub, Blogger, TerraNova posts that Cloudflare makes very challenging to access, and Covid Proxima, this felt like a good time to start over.

So, it’s a new blog. In 2025. Feels pretty good.
