Covid Proxima
actually written in 2025, but backdated to be in the right spot
Long ago, in a time of covid
We were social distancing and watching covid rates skyrocket. I had the idea that public data could help answer the question “how many people near me have covid?” so I built it. In starting up this new blog, I wanted to centralize as much content as possible, but didn’t feel like doing the work to port all the Covid Proxima graphic, charting, and processing code. So, the Covid Proxima section is a little broken.
Also, the content is locked to March 24, 2023, when the New York Times stopped updating their data.
Keeping it as a time capsule of a moment in history when humanity simultaneously accomplished the nearly impossible — an effective, new vaccine built in record time! — while simultaneously descending into excesses driven by polarization and political motivations.
