I Love It When A Plan Comes Together

Sometimes you have a week worth bragging about.

As many of you know, Linden Lab has been hiring to increase the size of our development team. Because Linden Lab is a great place to work and Second Life is as fun and challenging a project as anyone could imagine, we’re always hiring great developers. However, two signings in the last week really make me smile.

The first is David Parks. Haven’t heard of him? You will. As a student at Rochester Institute of Technology, David helped create the architecture and wrote most of the code for MUPPETS, a collaborative virtual space for teaching Java. MUPPETS is a very impressive project with absolutely cutting edge graphics and I am very excited that David is bringing his incredible energy and talent Linden Lab and our new renderer.

The second is Jeffrey Ventrella. If you're reading this post, you probrably know who Jeff is, but highlights of Jeff's career include co-founding There.com with Will Harvey, writing the original There.com prototype code, procedural model work at Protozoa, game development at Rocket Science, and research at the MIT Media Lab.  Jeff is not only one of the world's experts on avatars and 3D communications, but he also brings an artist's eye to every project. I am really looking forward to working closely with Jeff!

So, all-in-all, a good week. Not only did we hire two great developers, but two great developers who've actually built shared, collaborative 3D worlds!

How cool is that?
